Make your wood kitchen tools last forever.

Most wooden kitchen surfaces and tools are treated to a mineral oil and natural wax finish intended to repel moisture and prevent food particles from getting into the wood grain. Through normal use and cleaning however, this finish washes away and needs to be replenished to prevent them from drying out and cracking.

All of our kitchen products come ready to use and pre-treated with Walrus Oil brand cutting board oil which is their proprietary blend of Coconut Oil, Mineral Oil, Vitamin E, and Beeswax. We recommend Walrus Oil as it combines the oils and waxes needed to penetrate and seal in one step and is a great, easy consistency to work with. There are plenty of products out there and really any food grade mineral oil will do the trick. The food grade waxes help the board from feeling oily and help to seal open wood grain.

For everyday cleaning: Wash with warm water and a mild dish soap. Hand dry with a towel and stand on edge to allow board to dry thoroughly before putting away.

Re-oiling: Clean thoroughly with hot water and dish soap. Allow to dry completely. Pour a liberal amount of the Walrus Oil and spread by hand to cover both sides. Using a cookie sheet or other flat container can make this less messy and easier to contain the oil. Allow to penetrate for at least 12 hours and then wipe excess away. Repeat this process monthly or whenever you board starts to feel dry.
